In "The Five Red Herrings" Lord Peter--while on holiday in a small Scottish village--volunteers to investigate the death of a landscape artist named Campbell, whose body was found below the cliff where he had been painting. "Murder must advertise" is set in Pym's Publicity, a large advertising firm. When a new copywriter--a certain Mr. Bredon"--was hired, he was warned to be careful when he went down the staircase. Only a few days earlier, his predecessor had fallen down the stairs and been killed.
